Left/Right PCB Pairing, Handedness and Traceability

Split firmware must know which half is left, right, central or peripheral. Depending on the platform, handedness may be set by pins, EEPROM, firmware image or USB detection. Highleap needs the approved method and recovery process before NPI.

A wired split connector can carry power and communication, making pin assignment and user behavior safety-critical. QMK warns that common TRRS implementations carrying VCC are not hot-pluggable and should be disconnected from USB before insertion or removal. Panelisation can place both halves on one production panel when size and process permit, helping maintain lot consistency. The best panel arrangement depends on shape, copper balance, breakaway locations and assembly access.

Split Keyboard PCBA Assembly and Pair-Level Test

What is the difference between a wired and wireless split keyboard PCB?

A wired split keyboard uses an inter-half cable and usually shares power between the two sides. A wireless split keyboard normally gives each half its own controller, battery and BLE role.
