The defining feature of kitted PCBA is the material supply arrangement. The customer provides the complete component package required for the agreed production quantity, while the PCBA manufacturer performs the manufacturing work specified in the order.

The component kit can include integrated circuits, passive components, connectors, electromechanical parts, and other components required to complete the assembly. The factory receives, identifies, prepares, and assembles the supplied material according to the approved production documentation.

How Much Material Should Be Supplied?

The required quantity depends on the production quantity, component type, packaging format, assembly process, and the manufacturer’s material requirements. The BOM quantity should therefore not automatically be treated as the complete quantity that must be shipped for every component.

Before sending the kit, the customer should confirm required quantities and packaging requirements with the assembly supplier. This is particularly important for components supplied in reels, trays, tubes, or other manufacturer-specific packaging.
