Crystal Oscillator
What is Crystal Oscillator
A crystal oscillator is an electronic device that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating crystal to create an electrical signal with a precise frequency. This frequency is commonly used to keep track of time (as in quartz wristwatches), to provide a stable clock signal for digital integrated circuits, and to stabilize frequencies for radio transmitters and receivers. The most common type of piezoelectric resonator used is the quartz crystal, so oscillator circuits incorporating them became known as crystal oscillators. They are known for their accuracy, stability, and reliability in generating specific frequencies.

Kinds of Crystal Oscillators
There are several types of crystal oscillators, each designed for specific applications and characteristics:
Simple Crystal Oscillator: Basic oscillator circuit using a crystal for frequency stabilization.
Temperature-Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO): Provides temperature compensation to maintain a stable frequency over a range of temperatures.
Voltage-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO): Allows frequency adjustment controlled by an applied voltage.
Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO): Uses a temperature-controlled chamber (oven) to maintain the crystal at a consistent temperature for very high stability.
Microprocessor Compensated Crystal Oscillators (MCXO): Offers improved temperature compensation using a microprocessor.
